Mother-of-Pearl Inlaid Box With Sterling Silver Appliqués

Details:

• Estimated to date to the 19th century
• Sterling Silver adornments
• Silver marked with a lion, shield, and an M as well as a CS * (star) FS. The mark belongs to Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders and James Francis Hollings Shepherd Sterling Silver, founded in 1869, and still in business today. They were commissioned to make Princess Diana's wedding day bracelet. The marking is likely from around 1893.
• The sterling silver appears gold-toned in most areas, likely from original gold plating
• Leatherette lined bottom
• Original green velvet lining
• Working button-release mechanism

• 5 1/2" x 1" x 1 3/4"

Condition:

• Three repairs made. Mother-of-pearl was missing, so new pieces were carefully cut from antique mother-of-pearl and placed. See final three photos.
• Sterling silver may have been gold plated originally, some gold loss to the handle area near silver marks
• This is an antique piece, so normal wear consistent with age should be expected. Please review all photos closely.
